Rise Above Online Painting Workshop
Supply List

CANVAS:   You can buy any of these sizes 24" x 36", 24" x 48" or 20"x 30".  You may purchase them where ever art supplies are sold either online or in-store.  I go to Michael’s, as they periodically offer sales on canvases, or you can usually find 40% off any item coupons, which really helps costs.

ACRYLIC PAINT:  Any kind heavy body acrylic paint will work in any variety of colors that speak to you. At a minimum I would recommend primary colors, as you can mix them to get additional shades:
  • red, yellow, blue, titanium white, black.
  • Optional colors that I enjoy including are Cerulean blue and Magenta.
As far as the brand, if you have a favorite stick with it, otherwise Micheals has their own store brand called Artist’s Loft that I use. I also enjoy Liquitex BASIC, which is another option also found at Micheals or online at Amazon.

PAINT BRUSHES: I use and suggest cheap economy acrylic brushes.  I would recommend having a variety of shapes and sizes, round, flat and angle tips.  It depends on your preference but some find it easier to paint with long handle brushes.
  • Large wider brushes work well for covering large areas on your canvas.
  • Round brushes with pointed tips are great for detail.
  • Flat brushes create nice shapes and are great for spreading paint quickly and evenly on your canvas.
  • Angled brushes are versatile and can be used for general painting or detail work, I like to use them to outline.
You can find a value pack with a set, of assorted brushes both at Micheals I like the brand Artist Loft Necessities or online at Amazon, this will allow you to experiment with various tips to see which you prefer.

Other basic Supplies:

PALETTE: You can use paper plates or clean foam meat trays.

WATER BOTTLE: for thinning out paint and adding movement to your art.

PAPER TOWELS: for spills or messes, you can also use rags or old T-shirts.

APRON: or painting cloths, whatever you feel comfortable in, because I guarantee you'll get paint on yourself.

ART Journal:  OR WRITING journal, may want to write down you any inspirations you get from your meditation or this journey in general.  You can also just have a sheet of paper available to you.

OPTIONAL:

PENS/PAINT MARKERS: To create what I call "bling" (the details), I use Posca Paint Markers in black and white and Uni-ball Signo Gel Pens in gold, silver and white. These are optional, you could very well not choose to "bling" your feather or use a paint brush to add your bling.

VARIOUS OBJECTS:  to create textures and shapes on your canvas, like Sponges, Pencil with an eraser, Bubble wrap, as well as, a Spray bottle, or any stencils, really anything you can think of will work.

Let me know if you have any questions!

PALETTE: I use clean foam meat traysr paper plates.
